Training & Development Worker
Salary £24,600 - 35 hrs per week - Fixed term contract to October 2013
3 full time posts – one based in Middlesbrough serving Tees Valley region, two based in Gateshead serving Tyneside and Wearside
Reporting to the Training & Development Project Manager
The Regional Refugee Forum North East seeks 3 highly motivated and qualified workers for this new project which will build mutual understanding of needs and services and promote working relationships between refugee communities and mainstream agencies in Tyneside, Wearside and Teesside.
Through case work with participants from refugee community organisations, workers will deliver development support, arrange training and exchange learning placements make referrals to relevant support agencies, and promote engagement in our collective voice and advocacy platforms across the North East region.
Job Description: Training and Development Worker
- To assist individual refugees and asylum seekers by providing one to one developmental support.
- To participate in and deliver training to mainstream agencies.
- To design and implement routes of inclusion for inclusion in the RRF wider agenda.
- To design learning and training packages relevant to individual and group needs.
- To facilitate learning through work placements.
- To keep detailed records of meetings with individual refugees and asylum seekers and action plans, compile regular monitoring reports and reviews of progress against agreed actions.
- To train refugees and asylum seekers on evidence gathering and how to use that evidence to inform policy and practice.
- To train RCOs on how best to engage with young people from the refugee community and supporting main stream agencies on how best to engage with young refugees.
- o network with other relevant second tier organisations and develop a working knowledge of appropriate signposting opportunities.
- To ensure that workers throughout the sector have a good understanding of the particular needs and issues affecting refugees, asylum seekers and new migrant communities through training, seminars, conferences.
- To Create a Data Base of potential mainstreaming Agencies to be shared with RCOs.
- To contribute towards team meetings including planning and development of the project
- To have a strong commitment towards Equal Opportunities and human rights.
- To support the aims, values and actions of the Regional Refugee Forum North East
- To assist in any other duties commensurate with the post.
Personnel Specification
1. Essential
- At least 2 years experience of developmental work and an understanding of the voluntary and community sectors.
- Good standard of education, including good written and spoken English
- Understanding of the issues affecting refugees, asylum seekers and new migrant communities and a commitment to empowerment.
- Experience of evidence gathering evidence and ability to use evidence at relevant platforms.
- Experience of writing funding applications and reports for funders.
- Good organisational skills including event organisation and delivering training.
- Ability to design individualised pathways for personal development.
- Good networking skills and an understanding of key voluntary and statutory sector networks and helper agencies.
- Ability to create Data bases and sharing information
- Ability to develop support surgeries
- Administrative skills, including word processing, spreadsheets and databases.
- Self-starter and demonstrable capability to work on own initiative, as well as part of a team.
- Ability and willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends.
2. Desirable
- Ability to work with diverse communities
- Experience of setting up or working with new organisations
- Experience of writing and updating materials for a website
- Knowledge of developmental Agencies across the North East Region
- Knowledge of the north east region.
- Ability to travel within the region
