The Executive Committee (“TRUSTEES”)

Overall management responsibility for the Forum lies with our elected Board of Trustees (also known as our ‘Executive Committee’).

The Executive Committee is composed of 9 people, who are all members of a Forum member organisation. They work in a voluntary capacity (unpaid) and dedicate their time, skills and commitment to serve the interests of all member organisations and all refugees and asylum seekers in the region. They are not elected to represent the interests of their own RCO or community.

7 people are elected by the General Membership at the Annual General Meeting. The elected Committee can then co-opt a further 2 members. The officers (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary) are decided upon by the Committee at their first meeting after the AGM.  The Committee may also appoint independent Advisors, but these Advisors are not full members of the Committee.  The Executive Committee is also known as the Board of Trustees.

The Trustees usually meet once every month. They hear and discuss about how the Forum is moving towards its targets and aims.  The Committee hears reports from Forum staff about the activities they have been carrying out; makes sure that funding is being spent in the right way; discusses Forum policies and procedures, and contributes their ideas and experience towards future plans for the Forum.

Serving on the elected Executive Committee is a position of honour with responsibility:  Committee members are ‘Trustees’ of the charity and are therefore responsible for making sure we operate within the law and keep to the aims which are set out in our Constitution of March 2003.

See the Forum’s Annual Reports for past reports from the Trustees to the General Membership.

Becoming a Trustee

If you are interested in becoming a trustee, you are welcome to contact one of the existing Committee members to find out more. You can contact the committee on This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it . Or you can contact the Chief Executive Officer on 0191 423 6255 for more information.

For more information about the rules for Executive Committee please ask to see a copy of the RRF's Constitution, which was signed by 18 founder members organisations in March 2003.

We have also produced a 17 page document called Terms of reference & Code of Conduct for the RRF Executive Committee. This will give you all the details about how the committee works, and about the roles and responsibilities of each of the officers (Chair, Treasurer and Secretary). Our intention is that this document will ensure that the work of Forum is accountable, transparent, and maintains a high standard of management, which is conducted in a respectful and democratic way.

Accounts
The RRF’s annual accounts are independently examined by Read Milburn & Co Ltd, Chartered Accountants, North Shields.

Consultants
The RRF has contracted with First Business Support for professional support and guidance on Health & Safety and Employment Law.
