Many people do not realise that asylum seekers are not allowed to work. Since the Government withdrew the work concession on 23rd July 2002 asylum seekers are not allowed the dignity of using their skills to support themselves and their families whilst waiting for a decision on their application for asylum, which can take years. So they are forced to live on non-cash benefits amounting to as little as £5 a day. Since 2008, we have been campaigning actively in support of the national campaign to restore the right to work for asylum seekers if they have waited longer than 6 months for a decision or if they are unable to return to country of origin through no fault of their own. To date 165 of our members from 26 countries of origin have taken part in the campaign in our region.Contact us at
